In this lesson you’ll learn to
- I cut slow openings
- Most sentences are under 20 words
- I replaced vague words with specifics
- I read the copy aloud
The editing checklist
• Cut the first paragraph — drafts often start too slowly.
• One idea per sentence; most sentences under 20 words.
• Replace “we/our” sentences with “you/your” sentences.
• Swap vague words for specifics: “fast” → “in 24 hours”.
• Remove filler: “very”, “really”, “in order to”, “that”.
• Use active voice: “We fix it today” not “It will be fixed”.
• Read it aloud — if you stumble, rewrite.
Readability
Write so a 12-year-old could follow. Short paragraphs, sub-headings and bullet points help people scan, especially on phones.
