Native advertising places your ad among recommended articles on news and content websites. The ad looks like a headline; the click leads to a page that reads like an article. For calls, the usual funnel is native ad → advertorial or pre-sell page → phone call.
Why native works for some verticals
- Scale. Native networks reach very large audiences across thousands of sites.
- Older readers. News sites have older audiences, which suits senior insurance, home improvement and financial products.
- Story-led persuasion. Products that need explanation (final expense, solar, debt help) benefit from a page that tells a story before asking for the call.
The advertorial page
A good pre-sell page explains the problem, shows the solution and makes the call feel like the natural next step:
- A headline that continues the ad's promise.
- A short, relatable story or explanation of the problem.
- How the solution works, in plain language, with realistic expectations.
- A clear call to action with the phone number, repeated two or three times down the page.
Honesty rules you cannot ignore
Advertorials attract regulators when they deceive. Stay on the right side by:
- Labelling the page as an advertisement or sponsored content, clearly and at the top.
- Never using fake news brands, fake reporters or fake testimonials.
- Not claiming government programs, "new laws" or free money that do not exist.
- Not using celebrity images or endorsements you do not have.
- Getting the page approved by your buyer or network before running traffic.
Networks and advertisers increasingly reject publishers who cross these lines, and the consumer protection risk lands on everyone in the chain.
Targeting and optimisation
Native networks let you target by device, location, time and site. Start broad, then block sites that send clicks without calls. Most networks support conversion tracking — send back billable calls, not page views, and let the algorithm favour placements that produce callers.
Headlines are the biggest lever. Test several angles (cost, family, simplicity, urgency) with the same image, then test images on the winning headline.
Measuring the funnel
Track three numbers: cost per click, call rate (calls ÷ visitors) and billable rate. Native clicks are cheap but the call rate is lower than search, so even small improvements in the page's call rate can double profitability.
