Facebook lead ads: setup, forms and how to keep lead quality high

Facebook lead ads can deliver very cheap leads. The trick is making sure they are leads you can actually sell to.

Meta’s instant forms let people submit their details without leaving Facebook or Instagram. That convenience is why lead ads are cheap — and why quality can be poor if you set them up carelessly.

Setup

  1. Choose the Leads objective with instant forms (or website leads if you have a strong landing page).
  2. Check whether your offer falls under a Special Ad Category (credit, housing, employment, social issues) — targeting is restricted if it does.
  3. Install the Meta Pixel and Conversions API so you can send qualified-lead events back.

Form type

  • More volume: fastest to submit, cheapest leads, most accidental submissions.
  • Higher intent: adds a review step — fewer leads, better quality. Use this for most sales-led offers.

Qualifying questions

Add one to three multiple-choice questions that separate buyers from browsers: “Do you own your home?”, “What is your monthly energy bill?”, “When do you want this done?”. Volume will drop; cost per qualified lead usually improves.

Link your privacy policy, and add consent wording that matches how you will contact people — especially for calls and texts in the US.

Speed to lead

Connect forms to your CRM or call center so every lead gets an instant confirmation and a call within minutes. Form leads cool quickly.

Creative

Short vertical videos and simple images with a clear benefit, proof and qualifier (“For homeowners in Texas”). Avoid wording that implies you know the viewer’s personal situation.

Judge the right number

Compare campaigns by cost per qualified lead, appointment or sale — not cost per lead. Send qualified events back to Meta so the algorithm finds more people like your best leads.
